Take a Hike

A good friend from the White Mountains of New Hampshire spent the weekend. After a late night enjoying several bottles of great wine and conversation next to the fire pit & under the full moon we needed to get the blood moving in the fresh autumn air the next day....

...so we headed to a favorite place - Glacial Park & 3,300 acres of diverse hiking! This site offers signs of glacial activity containing gravel kames, restored prairies, oak savannas and wetlands including the kettle blog and the lost Bailey marsh with miles of diverse, interesting trails.

Great view from atop of the Kames as the fall colors are unfolding ..

Scott and Pat making the trek to the top of the kames ...

Cool vista's ...and the air helped our recovery..
Not like the views from your house looking at Attitash Mountain Scott, but not bad even for Illinois!
At the base of the Kames we immediately enter the prairie (my favorite area)...
Pat & Scott getting a little environmental education ...
This is why I like the prairie...the native Big Blue Stem grasses are 7-10 feet tall and beautiful as they are turning from green to a range of blue, bronze, & purples this time of year...
Heading up the final segment of our afternoon hike ....

Looking back over the Lost Bailey Marsh ...
The end of our hike, the Weidrich Barn ...and out of energy!

Thanks Scott - we look forward to our next trip to Glen!
