Elk Knob State Park

Elk Knob State Park was near our cabin in Todd, NC and is one of the newest additions to the North Carolina state parks system. It is in an interim development stage and the trail only goes partially up the mountain. We elected to hike to the summit by following a steep, rocky road and it was worth it for the panorama.

As we started you can see the green at the lower elevation - spring arrived here...

Pat & Kev making the turn starting out...

...on their way up, chating and connecting....good times!

Elk Knob Summit - not quite as high as K2....but a tough climb nonetheless...

Should have taken more pics - incredible vistas..

Kevin....(doing pretty good for a tough night of celebration the night before)...

The trail at the top....dropping off quickly....that's Kevin not all that far but the optics of the drop makes it look like he's a mile away...

Later that evening we were invited to one of Kevin's peer graduates/friends for a cookout at the cabin they rented., right on a hard-flowing rocky river - very cool...

Great place to talk and have a cocktail...

The Fontenot's are from Layfayette, LA and we had a wonderful time with them - especially sampling their homemade pepper jelly and all their homemade wines - wow!

The graduation visit was winding down at this point - only one more day left in the Boone, NC area..............for now.
